The bards of Nordic folk metal, Ensiferum, are setting out on a winter conquest across Europe – with a stop in Brno! Joining them on this grand adventure will be German power metal icons Freedom Call and Austrian symphonic metallers Dragony. Prepare for an evening filled with Norse mythology, epic battles, and fantasy tales told by three masterful storytellers!

Ensiferum stand among the leading names in folk metal – a genre that fuses thunderous metal riffs with melodies inspired by traditional folk music. Their sound is built upon powerful guitar walls, catchy melodic lines, and orchestral arrangements, often enhanced by choral sections and acoustic instruments. This combination creates an epic atmosphere reminiscent of ancient heroic sagas and legends, where harsh growls intertwine with clean vocals, bridging the rawness of metal with the majestic grandeur of folklore.

The roots of Ensiferum reach back to 1995, when guitarist Markus Toivonen founded the band in Helsinki. From their earliest demo recordings, the group stood out as a distinctive force on the Nordic metal scene. Their self-titled debut album (2001) immediately drew attention for blending melodic death metal with folk influences, laying the foundation for their signature sound. Over the years, the lineup has changed several times, but Toivonen has remained the driving force and guardian of the band’s original vision.

Freedom Call, Germany’s power metal veterans, have earned a reputation since their formation in 1998 as one of the most uplifting and melodic acts on the scene. Their music is marked by high-speed tempos, anthemic choruses, and a radiant atmosphere that has earned them the nickname “happy metal.” Led by vocalist and guitarist Chris Bay, the band seamlessly combines epic orchestral elements with infectious melodies, delivering energetic and joyful live performances that never fail to lift the crowd’s spirits.

Dragony, hailing from Vienna, have been preaching the power metal gospel since 2007. They’ve won fans over with their epic melodies, fantastical themes, and powerful stage presence. Their music thrives on fast guitar riffs, grand keyboard arrangements, and soaring choruses reminiscent of a heroic fantasy soundtrack. Lyrically, Dragony draw inspiration from mythology, legends, and pop culture, crafting a unique world where metal’s might meets playful imagination.
