ABSU, ANCIENT, TRIVAX - Praha

08 / 12 / 2025 / PRAHA / FUTURUM

The legendary black/thrash metal outfit ABSU is returning to stages worldwide! As part of a series of concerts celebrating the 30th anniversary of their iconic album The Sun of Tiphareth, Proscriptor will be joined on stage by veterans of the Greek black metal scene, Zemial, forming an impressive live lineup — all taking place on December 8 at Futurum Music Bar.

Absu is an American metal band from Texas, formed in the early 1990s. They are renowned for their unique fusion of black metal, thrash metal, and elements of progressive music, which they themselves describe as “mythological occult metal.” Their lyrics are heavily inspired by mythology, occultism, Mesopotamian and Celtic legends, as well as magical systems, particularly the teachings of Aleister Crowley. The central figure of the band is multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and drummer Proscriptor McGovern, who for nearly the band’s entire existence was its main creative force — writing lyrics, contributing to musical compositions, defining the conceptual direction, and serving as a distinctive visual symbol of Absu.

The band debuted in 1993 with Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L., an album that impressed with its extreme energy and dark atmosphere. Their second album, The Sun of Tiphareth (1995), gained acclaim from both fans and critics thanks to its sophisticated composition and strong integration of music with conceptual storytelling. The pinnacle of their early work came with their third album, The Third Storm of Cythraul (1997), which solidified Absu’s status as one of the most prominent American black metal bands. This was followed in 2001 by the album Tara. The band then underwent several lineup changes, with Proscriptor remaining its creative core and driving force.

After a brief hiatus, Absu returned with renewed energy, releasing Absu (2009) and Abzu (2011), which presented a more modern sound while preserving their signature mystical elements. In January 2020, Proscriptor announced the band’s official breakup, citing internal disagreements and the departure of several members as the main reasons. Nevertheless, Proscriptor has continued his musical journey, remaining a key figure associated with Absu’s legacy — whether through new projects or special concerts celebrating the work of this cult formation.
