MORTIIS - Praha

The father of Norwegian dungeon synth, Mortiis, is bringing a completely reimagined version of his debut album Født Til Å Herske—originally released in 1994—back to the stage!

Mortiis is a Norwegian musician who began his diverse musical journey as the bassist of the legendary black metal band Emperor. However, he soon set off on a solo path that would significantly influence the development of dark ambient music. In the mid-90s, he created his own sonic universe—a blend of dark atmospheres, epic synth compositions, medieval motifs, and fantasy aesthetics—laying the foundation for an entirely new genre: Dungeon Synth.

His debut album Født Til Å Herske (1994) is now considered a cult milestone that defined the genre and inspired countless followers. Mortiis’s visual style—his iconic mask, elaborate costumes, and immersive mythological world—became an inseparable part of his artistic expression and helped forge a unique identity that transcends traditional musical boundaries.

After years of exploring various styles (from industrial rock to darkwave), Mortiis is returning to his roots, reviving his “Era 1” material. In his new live show, he performs Født Til Å Herske in a modern, reimagined form—enhanced by a striking visual production created by renowned illustrator David Thierree, known for his work with bands like Behemoth and Gorgoroth.

Come experience the dark atmosphere, raw nostalgia, and the legacy of the album that gave birth to an entire genre—on September 6th at Prague’s Subzero club!
