OVERKILL, LAID TO WASTE, REFORE - Praha

12 / 07 / 2026 / PRAHA / MODRÁ VOPICE

New Jersey thrash metal veterans OVERKILL will take over Modrá Vopice on July 12 with a unique open-air show! Expect lightning-fast thrash, D.D. Verni’s clanking bass, and the immortal shriek of Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth. No trends—just pure destruction under the open sky.

In the metal world, Overkill are synonymous with resilience. Since forming in 1980 and laying the groundwork for East Coast thrash, they haven’t slowed down across twenty studio albums. While the “Big Four” experimented over the decades, Overkill—driven by the core duo of Ellsworth and Verni—relentlessly refined their signature sound, defined by hyperactive tempos and punk-infused attitude. Albums like Taking Over and The Years of Decay helped shape the genre, but it was Ironbound in 2010 that reignited the band’s fire and cemented their status as uncrowned kings of the subgenre who refuse to age.

At Modrá Vopice, expect a setlist that will put your neck to the test, spanning their entire discography—from raw early material to modern crushers like “Mean, Green, Killing Machine.” Live, Overkill operate like a finely tuned demolition machine, driven by Verni’s iconic “clanking” bass tone and Blitz’s commanding, high-energy stage presence. If you’re looking for the definition of pure, unfiltered energy without unnecessary frills or pretension, this summer evening should be your clear destination.

A thrash Sunday in every sense of the word! Legendary Overkill will be joined by two of the Czech scene’s most established acts.

The evening will kick off with Refore, a group of young musicians from the Valašsko region who first started tearing through Czech clubs as teenagers more than a decade ago. Their relentless energy eventually took them all the way to the stage of the Wacken Open Air last year. Following a drummer change this March, this will be their first Prague performance in the new lineup, promising a completely refreshed sound.

Next up are Laid to Waste. Originally formed in Plzeň and now based in Prague, the four-piece made waves in the underground scene with their 2015 debut album Counterattack. Blistering speed and the soaring vocals of frontman Smrťák remain the band’s defining trademarks, helping establish them as one of the most respected and popular Czech acts within the thrash metal genre today.
