The Texas post-rock outfit This Will Destroy You is coming to Prague’s Subzero club on July 30! Masters of cathartic soundscapes and crushing crescendos, they will guide you from airy melodies to dense doomgaze walls of sound. For fans of Mono, Russian Circles, or Jesu, this is absolutely essential.

Formed in the mid-2000s in San Marcos, Texas, the band may have emerged from the classic post-rock quiet/loud dynamic, but they soon began bending the formula to their own vision. While many of their genre peers stayed within accessible, cinematic territory, This Will Destroy You gradually wrapped their sound in heavy layers of fuzz and noise. Tracks like “Quiet” or the monumental “The Mighty Rio Grande” (which notably underscored the film Moneyball) have become textbook examples of how fragile ambient minimalism can, in a split second, transform into total guitar devastation.

The band definitively embraced darker and heavier realms on their landmark 2011 album Tunnel Blanket. Under the production guidance of John Congleton, they replaced traditional melodicism with oppressive doomgaze and claustrophobic sonic masses, earning lasting respect even from audiences accustomed to extreme metal. On their more recent releases from the New Others cycle, the Texans have lost none of their ability to build overwhelming tension.
